Luther won its third game in a row, defeating Buena Vista University 80-65 this afternoon in the Regents Center. The Norse have now won 11 of their last 13 games and remain in a three-way tie atop the American Rivers Conference standings with No. 10 Wartburg and No. 14 Loras at 9-2.
Luther led 42-34 at halftime and fought off a Buena Vista squad that pulled to within six points (54-48) with a little over two minutes remaining in the third frame. The Norse put together a mini 7-1 run to end the period and return to a double digit lead. Not done, Buena Vista continued to battle and trailed by nine points twice, the last time with five minutes left in the game. The Norse offensive attack finished with an 11-5 run down the stretch to secure the victory.
Four Norse tallied double digits led by Madi Spence and Sarah Holtz who both produced 18 points. Holtz recorded a double-double collecting a game high 10 rebounds. Coranda Vickerman finished with 16 and Madilyn Heinke was credited with 10.
Laura Hamilton, who was two points shy of double figures, dished out a career high 10 assists.
Buena Vista was led by Destiny Einerwold poured in a game high 24 points. Erin Gerke and Nicole Lange chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively.
Luther returns to action this coming Wednesday, Feb. 5 when it will host Wartburg College. Tip-off will take place at 5:50 p.m.
