Luther snapped its two-game losing streak posting a 77-62 victory over the University of Dubuque tonight in the Regents Center.
After holding a 59-55 lead at the end of three quarters, the Norse held the Spartans scoreless for the first six minutes of the final frame and jumped out to a double digit advantage. The Spartans shot just 16.7% (2-of-12) in the fourth quarter, while the Norse shot 63.6% (7-of-11).
Luther also won the battle of the boards 40-34 and forced Dubuque to turn the ball over 33 times.
Five Norse reached double figures led by Grace Prokosch who finished with a career high 16 points. All but two of her night's total came in the second half. Sarah Holtz was next with 15, followed by Madi Spence with 14, Madilyn Heinke with 12 and Laura Hamilton with 10.
Midway through the second quarter, Hamilton scored her 1000th career point. Following tonight's efforts, her career total reads 1006.
The Spartans were led by the trio of Lauren Griffith, Allison Bailey and Miah Smith. Griffith tallied a game high 24 points, while Bailey and Smith were credited with 14 and 11 points respectively.
The win gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 6-2, 8-7 overall. Dubuque fell to 1-7 in league play, 5-12 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 25 when it will travel to league leading Loras College (7-1). The Duhawks entered the week ranked No. 13 in the NCAA III.
