A cold shooting first half led to a 41-20 deficit to Simpson College this afternoon and Luther was never able to recover. The Norse were defeated by the Storm 90-66.
Luther shot 24% (6-of-25) in the first two frames, while the Storm blistered the nets connecting on 51.5% (17-of-33).
Luther played much better in the second half despite losing the services of Laura Hamilton who missed six minutes in the third quarter due to foul trouble and then picked up her fourth foul with 7:17 left in the game. The Norse pulled to within 11 (71-60) at the 5:34 mark of the fourth frame, but it was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Simpson's Claire Johnson led all scorers with 28 points. Johnson was 10-of-14 from the field that included a 3-of-5 effort from behind the three-point line.
The loss was Luther's second in a row and it is now 5-2 in the American Rivers Conference, 7-7 overall. Simpson is also 5-2 in the A-R-C, 13-3 overall.
Luther returns to action this coming Wednesday, Jan. 22 when it will host the University of Dubuque. Game time is scheduled for 5"30 p.m.
