Luther (7-5) won its seventh game in a row this afternoon, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University 96-63. The Norse full court pressure defense forced the Prairie Wolves to turn the ball over 25 times and shoot 39% from the field. The Norse also won the battle of the boards 47-31 that included 18 on the offensive boards that led to 21 second chance points.
Madilyn Heinke led the Norse attack posting a double-double. Heinke tallied 15 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds.
Laura Hamilton produced 20 points and dished out eight assists, both team highs. Hamilton is now 24 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone. She is also two assists away from setting the school record that is held by Amanda Smith (1999-2002) who finished her career with 350.
The Prairie Wolves were led by Caitlin Navratil who finished with 23 points.
With the victory, Luther sits alone atop the American Rivers Conference standings with a record of 5-0. This afternoon in Waverly, Loras defeated Wartburg 82-78. Loras is now 5-1 and Wartburg fell to 4-1.
Luther travels to Wartburg this coming Wednesday, Jan. 15. Tip-off will take place at 6:00 p.m.
