Luther improved to 2-0 in the American Rivers Conference, defeating Coe College 78-54 this afternoon in Cedar Rapids. Trailing 32-30 at halftime, the Norse exploded for 48 points in the final two quarters. The Norse outscored the Kohawks 23-11 in the third frame and 25-11 in the fourth.
Luther did most of its damage from behind the three-point line. The Norse were 8-of-11 in the second half and finished 11-of-17 for the game. They shot 51.9% and held Coe to 37.5%. Luther also won the battle of the boards 38-27.
Sarah Holtz led all scorers with a career high 27 points. Holtz missed just six shot attempts (9-of-15) and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Grace Prokosch came off the bench and knocked down three treys en route to 14 points. Laura Hamilton, who led the team with nine rebounds, finished with nine points. Maggie Anderson dished out a career high seven assists.
Coe was led by the duo of Jamie and Jackie Feldt. Jamie tallied 14 points while Jackie was credited with 10.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 2-5. Coe fell to 1-1 in the A-R-C, 5-3 overall.
Luther returns to action one week from today when it will host UW-Platteville at 2:30 p.m.
