Luther was defeated by the University of Dubuque this afternoon 85-83. The Spartans Mitch Burger scored the game winner on a lay-up with one second left in the game.
Luther led 43-34 at halftime and by as many as 14 (71-57) with a little over 10 minutes left to play in the second stanza. Dubuque outscored Luther 26-8 during an eight minute stretch and led 83-79 with 1:27 remaining. Two free throws by both Gage Thompson and Jadyn Torres leveled the score at 83-83 with 12 seconds left on the clock.
The Norse did the majority of their damage from distance, connecting on 16-of-34 attempts from behind the three-point line.
Dubuque stayed in the contest at the free throw line. The Spartans were 22-of-24 from the charity stripe. Dubuque also out rebounded Luther 39-28.
Peter Ragen led all scorers with 20 points. Burger finished with 18 and Avery Butler chipped in 12.
The loss gives Luther an A-R-C record of 4-11, 8-16 overall. Dubuque improved to 7-7 in league play, 14-9 overall.
Luther has one more regular season game remaining on the schedule. The Norse will host Coe College on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m.
