Luther was defeated by Wartburg 71-64 tonight in the Regents Center. The Knights trailed the Norse 31-22 with 5:04 left in the first half and put together a 16-2 run and held a 38-33 advantage at halftime. The Knights never trailed the rest of the game.
In the second half, Luther fought back from a 13-point deficit and pulled to within three (67-64), thanks to a Zach Randolph trey with 1:16 remaining. Wartburg secured the victory with a jumper by Ryan Stulken and two free throws by Max Smith Drahos in the final 21 seconds of action.
Four Knights tallied double digits. Jack Molstead led the team with 14 points. Smith Drahos had 12, Tyler Zumbach 11 and Stulken had 10.
The loss drops Luther's American Rivers Conference record to 3-9, 7-14 overall. Wartburg improved to 5-7 in the A-R-C, 9-12 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 8 when it will host nationally ranked and league leading Nebraska Wesleyan University. Tip-off will take place at 4:00 p.m.
