Luther defeated Buena Vista University tonight in the Regents Center by a final of 87-81. The Norse led all but 1:08 of this ball game and lead by as many as 16 early in the second half. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Beavers dating back to Feb. 6, 2016.
Luther shot 56% from the field that included an 11-of-24 performance from behind the three-point line. Luther was also efficient from the charity stripe connecting on 14-of-19 attempts.
Gage Thompson led the Luther attack with a career high 25 points, that included seven points in the final 2:01 of the ball game. Thompson was 6-of-9 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line.
Four Buena Vista Players produced double figures led by DJ McNeal with 19. Dominic Sesma and Timothy Jeffries both had 16 and Michael Demers had 14.
The victory gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 3-8, 7-13 overall. Buena Vista falls to 6-4 in league play, 15-4 overall.
Luther returns to action this Wednesday, Feb. 5 when it will host Wartburg College at 7:30 p.m.
