In a game that had nine ties and seven lead changes, Luther lost a hard fought battle tonight to the University of Dubuque 75-69.
Luther held a 37-31 halftime lead and led by as many as eight points (41-33) early in the second frame. Dubuque put together a 14-3 run during a four minute stretch and led (45-44) with 14:27 remaining. The Norse and Spartans were tied for the final time (57-57) at the 7:26 mark. Dubuque secured the victory outscoring Luther 18-12 down the stretch.
The Norse had a balanced attack as five players tallied double digits. James Kappus came off the bench and finished with 13. Aaron Blumberg had 12, while both Ray Whitlock and Rahul Bagga produced 11. Garrian Wade completed this list with 10.
The Spartans were led by Mitch Burger who scored a game high 29 points. Burger was 8-of-12 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
The loss gives Luther an A-R-C record of 2-6, 6-11. Dubuque improved to 4-4 in league play, 11-6 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday when it will travel to Loras College. Tip-off will take place at 4:00 p.m.
