Luther snapped its two-game losing streak this afternoon, defeating Simpson by a final of 83-73. The Norse trailed 40-34 at halftime and outscored the Storm 49-33 in the second stanza. With the score tied (63-63) with 6:18 left in the game, Luther put together a 20-10 run down the stretch to secure the victory.
The Norse shot 41.7% (25-60) and 80.8% (21-26) from the charity stripe, that proved to be the difference in the game.
Three Norse tallied double digits led by Zach Randolph who produced a career high 21 points. Randolph was 7-of-9 from the field that included a 5-of-6 performance from behind the three-point line. Aaron Blumberg and Ethan Ilunga also tallied double digits with 10 points each.
Conor Riordan led Simpson with a game high 24 points. Adam Reiter was next with 16.
The win gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 2-5, 6-10 overall. Simpson is also 2-5, 8-8 overall.
Luther returns to the Regents Center this coming Wednesday, Jan. 22 when it will host the University of Dubuque. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
