Luther lost a hard fought decision to Wartburg tonight in Waverly, Iowa. Trailing by 15 (54-39) five minutes into the second half, the Norse put together a 24-11 run and pulled to within two (65-63) with 7:16 left on the clock. The Knights outscored the Norse 15-8 down the stretch en route to an 80-71 victory.
Wartburg won the battle of the boards 45-26 and outscored Luther 48-16 in the paint. The Norse did most of their offensive damage from behind the three-point line, connecting on 12-of-31 attempts.
Four players produced double figures led by Gage Thompson with 16. Jadyn Torres and Rahul Bagga came off the bench and tallied 13 and 11 points respectively. Garrian Wade completed the list of double digit scorers with 10.
Wartburg was led by Jacob Kuhlemeier with 18. Both Broden Coulter and Max Smith Drahos were credited with 13 and Jack Molstead chipped in 11.
The loss gives Luther and American Rivers Conference record of 1-5, 5-10 overall. Wartburg improved to 3-3 in league play, 7-8 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 18 when it will host Simpson College at 4:00 p.m.
