The men's golf team traveled to Maple Plain, Minn., for the University of St. Thomas Pioneer Creek Invitational. The tournament was held at Pioneer Creek Golf Course, a Par 72 that measured 6,953 yards. This was a 54-hole tournament, with 18 holes played the first day, and 36-holes played the second.
The field of 92 players also included Division I golfers who all played as individuals. Only eight schools competed for the team title, seven from Division III, plus Manitoba University.
St. Thomas won the team title with a three round total of 863. Gustavus Adolphus was second 16 strokes behind at 880, and Augsburg finished third at 896. Luther was eighth with a 967.
The individual meadalist was Brandon Smith of Texas A&M who carded a -10. He shot rounds of 71-68-67. Emmet Herb of St. Thomas was second at -8 (70-69-69), and Jake Holbrook from Oklahoma was third at -7 (71-69-69).
Luther was led by Brandon Dorans who finished in a six-way tie for 45th with a 229. Ben Phipps (T70th - 238), Carson Hagen (T78th - 246), Matias Parada (85th - 254), and Eric Smedsrud (92nd - 367) completed the Norse five.
Luther returns to action Sept. 13-14 when it will compete at the Midwest Region Classic. This tournament will be played at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, Galena, Ill.
