The Luther College men's swimming team defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University tonight by a final of 113-89. The Norse finished first and second in four events, won both relays and placed first in two other events.
In the 200 freestyle, Matt Staver (1:52.83) and Soren Gloege Torp (1:54.83) finished one-two. Peder Smith (2:07.60) and Jack Meehan (2:14.26) placed first and second in the 200 IM. In the 100 fly, Kyle Anderson (57.80) and Patrick Garin (58.43) edged out Gavin Rogers (58.71) of NWU. Jackson Gergen (1:03.56) and Jack Meehan (1:06.00) completed the one-two finishes for the Norse in the 100 breaststroke.
Anderson also won the 1000 freestyle (10:49.95) by nine seconds and Gergen (22.38) edged Nolan Reid of NWU (23.12) to capture the title in the 50 freestyle.
The Norse foursome of Smith, Jackson, Staver and Matt Benson started the evening touching the wall first in the 200 medley relay (1:42.45).
Benson, Gloege Torp, Anderson and Isaac Christopherson ended the first dual of the year with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.29). Christopherson and Ben Dorsey of NWU were in a sprint to the finish and Christopherson won the battle touching the wall 0.36 seconds ahead of him.
Tomorrow Luther will host its own invitational. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
