The Luther College men's soccer team secured the American Rivers Conference automatic berth to the NCAA III National Championship tonight by defeating Loras College 2-1 in the Rock Bowl.
After falling behind 1-0 early in the second half, the Norse scored twice in the final 18 minutes to secure the come-from-behind victory. Marcos Vila leveled the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal at 72:41, his 12th of the year. Vila drove in a rebound off his initial penalty kick that was stopped by Loras goalkeeper Jesse Buffington. The penalty kick was awarded following a hand ball by Loras in the box. Ben Keller scored the game winner at 88:55, assisted by Colin Hughes (7). Keller's goal was his 14th of the year and eighth game winner.
With the win, Luther (16-4-1) captured its ninth conference tournament championship and third in the last four years. The Norse will be making their 10th appearance in the national tournament and fifth under the leadership of head coach Chris Garcia Prats.
Where and when the Norse will play in the national tournament will be announced during the national tournament selection show that will take place on ncaa.com at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
