No. 14 Luther put up its biggest total of the year as it rolled to a 6-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University. The Norse dominated this match, out shooting the Prairie Wolves 23-8, and placed 11 shots on goal. After leading 2-0 at halftime, Luther exploded for four goals in the last 45 minutes of play. The past two matches the Norse have outscored American Rivers Conference opponents 9-0.
Ben Sizelove (2) scored what proved to be the game winner in the 19th minute, assisted by Colin Hughes. Sizelove sent a rocket into the upper portion of the Prairie Wolves net from well outside the box. Three minutes later, Hughes (5) scored off a cross from both Steven Johnson (1) and Ben Keller. Keller assisted on the next two goals as well, giving him three for the match and increased his season total to 11. Will Overberg (6) scored the first of his two goals at 48:04. He also scored at 56:20 unassisted. Marc-Arthur Shapiro (3) gave the Norse a 4-0 lead at 55:49. Marcos Villa (9) completed the scoring with a goal at 59:44 assisted by Faydane Ouro-Akondo (1).
Carson Davenport got the start in front of the nets and turned away the only shot he faced on goal in 81-plus minutes of action. Nkosi Mngomezulu entered the match with 8:36 remaining and did not face a shot.
The win moved Luther into third place in the A-R-C with a record of 4-2, 11-3-1 overall. NWU fell to 0-4-1 in league play, 6-6-3 overall.
Luther will complete its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Norse will travel to St. Olaf College for a match that will begin at 3:00 p.m.
