No. 8 Luther improved to 6-1-1 after handing UW-Whitewater a 3-2 loss tonight in the valley. Whitewater entered the game with an overall record of 10-0-1, and with a 16-match unbeaten streak, that dated back to Oct. 20, 2018.
Whitewater struck first when Garrett Morgando (1) scored on a header off a corner kick by Brad Ludwig at 12:47. Luther responded a little over a minute later. Marcos Vila (5) drove a shot into the lower right hand corner of the Warhawks net, off a rebound shot by Ben Keller (4) at 14:10.
In the second half, Luther took a 3-1 lead thanks to goals by Colin Hughes (3) at 51:39 and Tim Maynard (1) at 53:28. Hughes scored a direct kick from 30 yards out and Maynard scored what proved to be the game winner, on a header off a free kick from Hughes (2).
Whitewater made things interesting thanks to a goal by Jalen Holley at 81:08, assisted by Carlos Mondejar.
With his assist tonight, Ben Keller moved into the tenth position on Luther's all-time list for career points with 86.
Luther will begin American Rivers Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 28. The Norse will host the Dutch of Central College at 4:30 p.m.
