No. 19 Luther ran its unbeaten streak to five matches this afternoon in the valley. The Norse defeated the Pioneers of UW-Platteville 2-1.The win gives Luther an overall record of 5-1-1, while UW-Platteville fell to 2-3-2. Luther now leads this series that started in 1990, 12-10-1.
Marcos Vila scored both of Luther's goals, his third and fourth of the season. Vila scored unassisted at 56:55, dribbling the ball up the middle and then ripping a shot into the corner of the Pioneers net. The goal tied the match at 1-1. In the 87th minute, Vila produced the game winner in the upper right corner of the net, assisted by Ben Keller (3).
The Norse tallied 13 shots and placed five on goal. Carson Davenport was credited with the win in front of the nets and turned away four of the five shots he faced this afternoon.
Luther's next match will be at home on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The Norse will host the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater at 5:00 p.m.
