No. 4 Luther hosted No. 12 University of St. Thomas tonight under the lights in the valley. After a scoreless 66 minutes of action, the Norse and Tommies unfurled a barrage of goals that ended with an overtime game winner by Ben Keller in the 91st minute.
St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead at 67:52 on a shot by George Marty that found the lower left corner of the Norse net. Four minutes later, Will Overberg drove in his first collegiate goal unassisted that leveled the score at 1-1. Marcos Villa gave the Norse an 2-1 advantage in the 83rd minute scoring off a rebound from a shot by Logan Morrison. The Tommies Sean Kurtenbach tied the match for a second time with a header into the upper right corner off the net off a thrown in from teammate Jack Barry.
Keller scored the game winner off a pass from Overberg towards the left corner of the box and drove the ball into the upper right corner of the net. The goal was his third of the season.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 2-1, while St. Thomas fell to 1-1-1.
Luther returns to action this Sunday, Sept. 8 when it will travel to Macalester College for a match that will begin at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
