Luther defeated Buena Vista University this afternoon in Storm Lake by a final of 4-0. The victory secured a spot in the six-team American Rivers Conference Tournament. Luther has never missed the conference tournament since its inception in 1996, a string of 24-years.
Luther dominated this match out shooting Buena Vista 23-2. The Norse scored three times in the first half and once in the second half.
Four different Norse scored. McKenzie Lundquist scored what proved to be the game winner unassisted at 19:40. Ella Smith, Rainey Baker and Lindsay McFarland all scored their first goals of the seasons. Smith scored at 26:35, followed by Baker at 32:20 and McFarland at 61:37. Lundquist (1) assisted on Smith's goal, while Maggie Anderson (3) assisted on Baker's. McFarland's goal was unassisted.
Luther has never lost to Buena Vista, a string of 23 matches. The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 4-2-1, 7-7-2 overall. Buena Vista fell to 0-7 in league play, 2-14 overall.
Luther will wrap up the regular season schedule at home on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Norse will host the Knights of Wartburg College at 5:00 p.m.
