Luther took a solid step towards making the American Rivers Conference six-team tournament after defeating Nebraska Wesleyan University 1-0 today. The victory moved Luther into third place in the league standings, while NWU fell to sixth.
Playing in a constant drizzle throughout the match, the Norse were out shot the Priaire Wolves 12 to 5 and placed four shots on goal. McKenzie Lundquist scored the game winner, a shot into the lower right corner of the net, in the 25th minute. Lundquist was assisted by Lizzy DePrenger (2), who sent a through ball to the right side of the box. Lundquist's goal was her third of the year.
Norse keeper Kennedy Bergren turned away all four shots she faced on goal en route to her third shut out of the year.
The victory gives Luther an A-R-C record of 3-2-1, 5-7-2 overall. NWU fell to 2-3 in league play, 11-4 overall.
Luther will wrap up its non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Norse will travel to St. Olaf College for a match that will begin at 12:30 p.m.
