Two teams looking for their first American Rivers Conference victory squared off this afternoon in J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on the campus of Buena Vista University. Fifteen touchdowns were scored as the Norse and Beavers combined for 100 points and 1,060 yards of total offense. Buena Vista scored nine times and Luther six, resulting in a 60-40 victory for the Beavers.
Luther's point total was its highest of the year. Led by Parker Kizer, who had a career afternoon, the Norse offense produced 503 yards of total offense. Kizer rushed for 197 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 68, 1 and 8 yards. He also threw for 121 yards, connecting on 12-of-19 attempts.
With just under a minute left in the first half, Quon Lambert returned a kick-off 93 yards for a touchdown that pulled the Norse to within one of the Beavers 27-28.
Buena Vista answered with touchdown passes of 13 and 20 yards in the final 14 seconds of the second frame, and led at halftime 40-27, the closest Luther would get to the Beavers the rest of the afternoon.
The trio of sophomore running back Bryland Menicucci, sophomore quarterback Reyes Lara III, and junior wide receiver Eric Pacheco led the Beavers offensive attack that compiled 557 yards of total offense. Menicucci rushed for 122 yards on 12 carries and reached the end zone four times. Lara III threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target was Pacheco, who made nine catches and caught all three of his touchdown passes.
The loss gives Luther an A-R-C record of 0-6, 0-8 overall. Buena Vista is now 1-6 in league play, 3-6 overall.
One week from today, Luther will wrap up its home schedule. The Norse will host the Prairies Wolves of Nebraska Wesleyan University. Kick-off will take place at Noon.
