Luther's oldest non-conference series continued this afternoon here in Carlson Stadium. The Norse hosted the Oles of St. Olaf College and were defeated by a final of 33-20. This was the 64th meeting between these two school dating back to 1921.
Led by the rushing efforts of Khayleb Willis, the Oles tallied 475 yards of total offense. Wills was the work horse in the back field, carrying the football 33 times for 260 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Lars Prestemon was credited 181 yards and threw touchdowns passes of 62 and 32 yards, both in the first quarter.
Luther took an early 7-0 lead when sophomore quarterback Parker Kizer scored from five yards out with 7:15 left in the first quarter. Kizer, who was getting his first collegiate start, went over the 100-yard mark for the second week in a row. Kizer had 101 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. His second touchdown was a 16-yard scamper late in the third quarter that pulled the Norse to within 30-14 of the Oles.
Tre Jensen made things interesting, breaking loose for a career long 52-yard touchdown run at 14:10 of the fourth frame. The score closed the gap to 30-20, but it proved to be the closet the Norse would get to the Oles the rest of the way.
On special teams, Scott Edwards averaged 40.8 yards per punt, that included a career long of 73. He finished with 204 yards on five punts.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 0-2. St. Olaf improved to 2-0.
Next week, Luther begins American Rivers Conference play and will host Wartburg College. Kick-off will take place at 1:00 p.m.
