No. 13 Luther College has advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA III Men's Soccer National Tournament. Tonight in the second round, the Norse posted a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Stars of Dominican University. This was the first ever meeting between these two teams.
Trailing 2-1 at halftime, Luther scored goals in the 75th and 88th minutes to secure the victory. Aidan O'Driscoll knocked in the goal at 75:47 that leveled the match, assisted by Ben Keller (6). O'Driscoll's goal was his sixth of the season. Brunno Colon scored the game winner at 88:29 assisted by Rafael Broseghini (4). Colon's goal was his seventh of the season and fourth game winner.
Keller gave the Norse an early 1-0 lead scoring at 4:31 assisted by Colin Hughes (2). Keller's goal was his team best 11th of the year. Dominican answered Keller's early goal with goals at 17:40 and 40:06.
The Norse got off 19 shots to the Stars 12 and placed eight inside the frame. Norse keeper Carson Davenport was credited with one save.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Norse who are now 18-3-1. Dominican's season came to an end with a record of 15-6-1.
Where the Norse will play next weekend will be announced sometime Monday, Nov. 11. We do know that Luther will face the University of St. Thomas in the next round.
