Luther outscored Suffolk University (MA) 6-1 in the final 2:24 of their first game of the Naples Shootout to record an 80-78 come-from-behind victory. The Norse led by as many as nine points in the first half and held a 39-35 advantage at halftime. Sullfolk took its first lead in the second half with 15 minutes remaining and held the lead until a three-point basket by James Kappus gave the Norse a 79-78 lead with 10 seconds left in the game. Eight seconds later Jadyn Torres finished the game making one of two free throws.
Kappus finished the game with a season high 20 points that included a 6-of-8 performance from behind the three-point line. His six treys was one shy of the single game school record.
Also posting double figures was Jared Nicolaisen (16), Torres (10) and Aaron Blumberg (11).
The Norse shot 43.3% that included 11-of-27 from behind the arch. The Norse were also 11-of-18 from the charity stripe and won the battle of the boards 42-39.
The win was the third in a row for the Norse who are now 5-4 overall. Suffolk University fell to 5-5.
Luther will wrap up its trip to Naples, Florida tomorrow when it will face Connecticut College at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
