Luther and Buena Vista completed their three-game series this afternoon here in the valley. In a game that took four hours and eight minutes, Buena Vista came out on top 13-11 in 13 innings.
After three frames the score was tied 6-6, with BVU scoring five in the first and one in the third, and Luther scoring five in the second and one in the third.
Neither team posted a run until the ninth, when they matched runs scored through the 12th. The Beavers scored a run in the 9th and 10th, two in the 11th and one in the 12th. Luther responded with the same run production in all four frames. In the 13th, the Beavers scored two runs on two hits and retired the Norse in order in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.
Buena Vista scored its 13 runs on 19 hits, while Luther scored its 11 runs on 18 hits. The Norse used nine different pitchers and the Beavers used eight.
Jake Vogt, who had two stolen bases, tied the career record for this category with 53. He joined James Cortez who played for the Norse from 1997-2000.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 13-8, good for second place in the league standings. Buena Vista improved to 12-9 in league play and sits alone in fourth place.
Luther wraps up the regular season schedule with three games at Simpson College Friday and Saturday, May 3-4. The Norse and Storm will play one game (1x9) Friday starting at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday the double header (2x9) will begin at 1:00 p.m.
