Luther swept the first two games of a three-game series with Central College this afternoon in the valley. The Norse won game one 12-0 (6) and the nightcap 7-5.

In game one, the Norse scored in every inning except the sixth. The Norse exploded for 15 hits and scored two runs in the second, three in the third, one in both the third and fourth frames and five in the fifth. 

Luke Plunkett had a monster game. Plunkett was 4-for-4 with five rbi. Jake Halverson and Jake Vogt both drove in two runs, while Joe McKibben and Trent Athmann drove in one run each. Halverson finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while Vogt went 2-for-3. Owen Vander Linden also had a multiple hit game going 3-for-4.

Joey Cardamon improved to 4-2 facing 20 batters, giving up just two hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. Nick Dufoe finished the game on the mound and retired all but one batter he faced.

In the nightcap with the game tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the eighth, Luther scored three runs on five hits to take a 7-4 lead. Central made things interesting in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but managed to scored just run.

Vander Linden drove in two of the Norse runs with a double to left in the fourth and a single to right in the eighth. Bryce Hingst, Joe McKibben and Vogt were all credited with one rbi. Vander Linden and Kyle Schnobrich produced four of Luther's seven hits, both going 2-for-4 at the plate. 

Colin Coffey (4-2) picked up the win on the mound. Coffey threw eight innings, allowed five runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out 11. Ross Hingst picked up his first save of the year.

Box Sore

The sweep gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 9-2, 16-11 overall. Central fell to 6-8 in the A-R-C, 16-9 overall.

These two teams will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with one game (1x9). This game will begin at Noon.
