Luther and Washington-St. Louis wrapped up their three-game series this afternoon at CarShield Field, O'Fallon, Missouri. The Bears swept today's double header 3-2 (11) and 8-6.
Game One Recap:
With the scored tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the 11th, the Bears Ryan Nagel hit a ground rule double down the right field line that scored the game winner.
WashU scored one in the third and one in the fifth and held a 2-1 lead until Luther tied the game with a run in the eighth.
Game Two Recap:
Luther produced six runs on 10 hits, but could not match the eight runs on 13 hits by the Bears. The Norse scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the eighth. The Bears led 4-0 after four and then added three in the fifth and one more in the seventh.
Derek McCready led the Norse attack going 3-for-4, drove in two runs and scored twice. Vander Linden also had a multiple hit effort going 2-for-4. McKibben, Jake Vogt, Tanner Reising and Kelby Johnson each drove in a run.
The two losses drops Luther's overall record to 3-4. Washington-St. Louis improved to 5-2-1.
Next week, Luther travels to Tucson, Arizona and will play five games in four days at the Kino Sports Complex. The Norse will face Bethesda University (CA), Concordia University (WI), Wesleyan University and Allegheny College (PA).
