It was senior day in Decorah as Luther hosted Wartburg College this afternoon. The Norse and the Knights split the double-header by with the Norse winning game one 2-1 and the Knights claiming game two 5-2.
In game one, Norse pitcher Samantha Bratland (15-3) and Knights hurler Brenna Gray (8-3) battled for six innings until the final frame. Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Norse lead off hitter Hannah Halverson smacked her first career college home run over the left field fence to tie the game. Sierra Freeland followed with a double to center field. After the Knights switched pitchers, Morgan Hogenson advanced Freeland to third on a bunt single. Annie See followed with a walk to load the bases. Paige Timmerman then drew a walk to plate the winning run.
Bratland allowed only two hits and one run while striking out eight Wartburg batters.
In the second game, Wartburg scored five runs on nine hits. The Knights scored one in the first and two runs in both the third and seventh frames. Knights hurler Maddie Rog held the Norse batters in check until the bottom of the seventh, when Timmerman and pinch runner Hannah Nelson both scored on a Maleah Georgen single to right field.
In the circle, both Courtney and Kendra Cooper saw action with Kendra throwing the majority of the innings. Courtney picked up the loss pitching the first frame. Kendra allowed four runs on seven hits, walked three and struck out five in six innings of work.
