No. 24 Luther remained unbeaten in American Rivers Conference action after sweeping Simpson College this afternoon in the valley. The Norse won game one 2-0 and followed with a 14-6 (6) victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Paige Timmerman hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the bottom of the first. The home run was the first of her collegiate career and proved to be the game winner. The Norse added an insurance run in the fifth. Hannah Halverson started the frame with a double. Two batters later, Sierra Freeland hit a deep sac fly to center field that scored Halverson. Morgan Hogenson advanced Halverson to third with a ground ball to second base.

Samantha Bratland spread six hits, walked one and struck out eight en route to the shutout.

The Storm and Norse combined for 19 hits in game two. Luther scored 14 runs on 11 hits, while the Storm tallied six runs on eight hits. Only seven of the Norse runs were earned, as the Storm committed six errors. Five of the errors came in the bottom of the fifth that led to five Norse runs. Simpson had just tied the game 5-5 in the top of this frame, thanks to a three-run home run by Megan Crockett. After the dust had settled, Luther held a 10-6 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sierra Freeland hit a walk-off grand slam. The blast was her second hit of the game and first collegiate home run.

Annie See, who did not get a hit in game one, led the Norse offensive attack. She was 3-for-4 with two rbi and two runs scored. Maleah Georgen also had a multiple hit game going 2-for-3 with one rbi. 

Kendra Cooper picked up the win in relief. Cooper entered in the fifth and did not allow a run in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Luther has now won 14 in a row and is 6-0 in the A-R-C, 24-3 overall. Simpson fell to 2-6 in league play, 15-13 overall.

The Norse will host Wartburg College this Saturday, April 13. First pitch is scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m.
