It was the American Rivers Conference opener for Luther this afternoon at Loras College. The Norse won both games over the Duhawks in five innings, 8-0 and 16-3.
In game one, with the scored tied 0-0 after two, Luther scored six runs on four hits and had a bit of help from Loras, as it committed three errors. Abby Gehringer drove in two runs with her only hit of the game, a double to center field. Blake Banowetz and Paige Timmerman were also credited with an rbi in this frame. Banowetz, Timmerman and lead-off batter Annie See all went 2-for-4. Combined the Norse tallied 10 hits.
Samantha Bratland (10-3) allowed just two hits and struck out two, in five innings of work in the circle. It was her third shutout of the year and 22nd of her career.
In the nightcap, Luther exploded for 16 runs on 16 hits. The Norse scored seven runs in the second inning, five in the third and added four more in the fourth.
Gehringer had a monster game. She was 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in six runs. She drove in three runs in the second on a double to right-center field and three more in the third, thanks to a three-run home run over the left field fence, her fourth of the year.
Timmerman, Hannah Halverson and Addy Pender all had two hits. Timmerman was 2-for-2 with an rbi and a run scored, Halverson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an rbi, and Pender was 2-for-3 with two rbi and two runs scored. Pender drove in both of her runs with a triple to right field in the second.
The Norse have won eight in a row and are now 18-3 overall. Loras fell to 0-4 in the A-R-C, 9-14 overall.
Tomorrow, Luther is scheduled to play at Augustana-Rock Island. This non-conferenc twin bill will begin at 1:00 p.m.
