The Luther College softball team is scheduled to play 10 games during its annual spring trip to the PFX Spring Games, Clermont, Florida.

Saturday, March 23 - Luther 10, Rutgers University-Newark (NJ) 3
Luther ran its win streak to five in a row, thanks to a 10-3 victory over Rutgers-Newark. The Norse scored six runs in the second and added two in both the third and fifth frames.
Blake Banowetz and Hannah Halverson both drove in two runs. Banowetz was 2-for-5, while Halverson went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sierra Freeland and Abby Gehringer also had multiple hits going 3-for-5 and 2-for-2 respectively.
Samantha Bratland (5-2) allowed three earned runs on three hits, walked one and struck out three en route to the victory in the circle.
Saturday, March 23 - Luther 10, University of Chicago 0 (5)
Luther improved to 8-2 after defeating the University of Chicago 10-0 in five innings. The Norse exploded for nine runs in the second inning and added one more in the third.
In the second, the Norse drew eight walks. Emily Versnik drove in two runs with a pinch hit single and Paige Timmerman drove in two on a single to right field. The Norse combined for a total of eight hits with both Timmerman and Blake Banowetz producing two each.
Courtney Cooper (2-0) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out two en route to her second victory in the circle.
Sunday, March 24 - Luther 5, Oberlin College (OH) 4
Trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Norse scored four runs and defeated Oberlin 5-4. Maleah Georgen hit a walk-off double with the bases loaded that secured the win.
Samantha Bratland (6-2) picked up the win in the circle in relief. Bratland pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, allowed one hit and struck out five.
The win was the seventh in a row and increased Luther's overall record to 9-2.
Sunday, March 24 - Luther 8, Miami University-Hamilton (OH) 0 (6)
Luther scored eight runs on 12 hits and defeated the Harriers 8-0 in six innings. The Norse scored two runs in the second and fourth innings, one in the fifth and tacked on three in the sixth.
Abbey Gehringer led the offensive attack going 3-for-4 with three rbi that included a two-run home run in the sixth. Maleah Georgen went 2-for-4 and Morgen Hogenson was 2-for-3. Blake Banowetz drove in two runs, while Sierra Freeland and Emily Versnik were both credited with one rbi.
Samantha Bratland (6-2) spread five hits and struck out five in five innings of work. Kendra Cooper tossed the final frame and allowed one hit and walked one.
The win was the eighth in a row and improved Luther's overall record to 10-2.
Monday, March 25 - UW-Stout 6, Luther 2
UW-Stout scored six runs on seven hits and snapped Luther's eight-game win streak. The Bluedevils scored two in the first and third frames and one in the fifth and knocked out Norse starter Samantha Bratland from the circle. Bratland allowed five runs, three earned, walked one and struck out one in five innings of work. Kendra Cooper tossed the final two innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits. The Norse committed three errors in this game.
Maleah Georgen, who was 2-for-3 and Hannah Halverson both drove in a run. Annie See went 4-for-4 from the lead-off slot in the lineup.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 10-3. UW-Stout improved to 7-4.
Monday, March 25 - Luther 8, Franklin College (IN) 1
Luther bounced back from an earlier loss to UW-Stout, defeating Franklin 8-1. All eight runs were unearned thanks to four Franklin errors. The Norse tallied six hits and scored five runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.
Annie See drove in three runs, two in the second on an single and one in the fifth on a sac fly, both to center field. Abby Gehringer also drove in two runs in the second on a single up the middle. Maleah Georgen and Morgan Hogenson were credited with an rbi each. Hogenson was the lone player to produce multiple hits going 2-for-3.
Courtney Cooper (3-0) tossed six innings in the circle. She allowed one run on three hits, walked three and struck out two.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 11-3. Franklin fell to 5-9.
Wednesday, March 27 - Luther 3, No. 17 UW-Whitewater2
Courtney Cooper pitched a gem and Luther scored two runs on two hits in the top of the sixth that proved to be the difference in today's 3-2 victory over No. 17 UW-Whitewater. Cooper (4-0) went the distance in the circle and allowed one earned run, spread five hits and walked four en route to her fourth win of the season.
With the scored tied 1-1 after five, Luther manufactured the game winning run. Blake Banowetz walked, followed by an Abbey Gehringer single up the middle. A Maleah Georgen sac moved the base runners to second and third. Paige Timmerman followed with a double to center field that gave the Norse a 3-1 advantage.
Gehringer was the only Norse to record multiple hits going 3-for-3. Georgen drove in Luther's first run of the game in the fourth with a single up the middle.
The win was the first for the Norse over a top-25 team this year and raised their overall record to 12-3. Whitewater fell to 5-4.
Wednesday, March 27 - Luther 6 No. 5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2
For the second time in three hours, Luther defeated a top-25 team. In today's second and final game, the Norse defeated No. 5 MIT 6-2. Luther had seven hits and five of them came in the bottom of the third that led to five runs. The Norse added a run in the fifth and MIT scored both of its runs in the top of the sixth.
Samantha Bratland (8-3) went the distance in the circle. Bratland allowed two earned runs on four hits, walked two and struck out two en route to her eighth win of the year.
Blake Banowetz had two of the seven hits and drove in one run. Annie See, Maleah Georgen and Bratland were also all credited with an rbi. Morgan Hogenson drove in two runs in the fifth on a single to left field.
The win was the third in a row for the Norse and 11th in the last 12 games. Luther is now 13-3. MIT fell to 6-3.
Thursday, March 28 - Luther 8, College of New Rochell (NY) 1
Luther pounded out 11 hits and defeated New Rochelle (NY) 8-1 in today's first of two games at the PFX Spring Games. The Norse scored two in the first, four in the third and one run in both the fourth and sixth frames.
Abby Gehringer led the Norse attack hitting back-to-back two-run homes runs in the first and third innings. Gehringer finished 2-for-2 and walked twice.
Sierra Freeland drove in two runs in the third on a single to center. Blake Banowetz and Maleah Georgen were both credited with one rbi. Georgen and Paige Timmerman also had a multiple hit efforts going 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 respectively.
Courtney and Kendra Cooper combined in the circle and held New Rochelle to just four hits. Courtney (5-0) was credited with the win, allowing one run on two hits and struck out two in four innings of work. Kendra struck out two and gave up two hits in the final three frames.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Norse who are now 14-3.
Thursday, March 28 - Luther 9 vs. Union College (NY) 0 (5)
Luther rolled to a 9-0 victory in five innings over Union College (NY) to wrap up today's schedule. The Norse did all of their damage in the first three innings scoring twice in the first, four times in the second and then put three more on the board in the third.
Annie See, Paige Timmerman, Blake Banowetz and Abby Gehringer all had two hits and two rbi.
Samantha Bratland (9-3) did not allow a hit in four innings of work en route to the win. She faced 14 batters, walked two and struck out seven. After issuing a walk to the very first batter, Bratland retired the next 10 in a row.
Abbey Gapinski got the call in the final inning and face four batters and allowed one hit.
The win was the fifth in a row for the Norse who are now 15-3.
Friday, March 29 - Luther 5 vs. UW-Stout 2
Luther defeated UW-Stout this morning in Clermont, Florida by a final of 5-2. The win was the sixth in a row for the Norse who are now 16-3. This was also the final game at the PFX Spring Games. The Norse finished the week with a record of 10-1, with their only loss was to UW-Stout four days ago by a final of 6-2.
Today, the Norse scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a run in the sixth. The Blue Devils scored once in the second and fifth frames.
Blake Banowetz and Abby Gehringer were both credited with two rbi. Anne See, Paige Timmerman and Addy Pender all had two hits. Combined the Norse tallied 11 hits.
Courtney Cooper (6-0) was credited with the win. Cooper allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out three. Samantha Bratland took over the circle for the final three frames and was credited with the save. Bratland allowed on unearned run, walked four and struck out four.
Luther begins the America Rivers Conference schedule on Tuesday, April 2 when it will travel to Loras College. This double header will begin at 2:00 p.m.
