Luther was defeated by Coe College this afternoon by a final of 80-63. Luther held a 39-38 advantage at halftime but was outscored by Coe 42-24 in the second frame.
The Kohawks did the majority of their damage from distance, connecting on 12-of-28 three-point attempts. They shot 53.3% and also dominated the boards 44-29.
Spencer Sturges led the Norse attack with a career high 19 points. Sturges missed just three shots from the field and was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Ray Whitlock also tallied double digits producing 11 points off the bench.
Coe was led by Adam McDermott who recorded a double-double. McDermott finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Calvin Walker (19), Nolan Timp (15), and Josh Schmitt (10) completed the list of double digit scorers.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 1-10, 7-12 overall. Coe improved to 7-5, 13-8.
Next week Luther has three games on the schedule. Monday, Feb. 2 the Norse travel to Simpson College. Wednesday, Feb. 6 Wartburg College comes the Regents Center and on Saturday, Feb. 9 Luther travels to Central College.
