The defending national champions, Nebraska Wesleyan University, defeated Luther 94-61 this afternoon in Lincoln. The win was the 30th in a row for the Prairie Wolves dating back to Jan. 27, 2018, when they were defeated by Simpson College 102-97 in overtime in Indianola. They also remain one of five teams at any level of the NCAA to remain undefeated with a mark of 17-0.
The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 46-20 advantage at halftime and finished the second half 48-41. They shot 58.7% that included a 15-of-31 performance from behind the three-point line.
The Norse, playing without the services of their leading scorer Jared Nicolaisen due to an injury, shot 34.9% with 14 of their 22 field goals coming from behind the arch.
Garrian Wade and Anthony Westhusing led the Norse attack with both producing career highs. Wade finished with 17 points, thanks to a 6-of-10 performance from the field. Westhusinig knocked down five treys and finished the afternoon with 15 points.
The loss gives Luther a league record of 0-8, 6-10 overall. Nebraska Wesleyan remains atop the league standings with a mark of 8-0.
Luther returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23 when it will travel to the University of Dubuque. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
