Luther hosted Loras College tonight and was defeated by a final of 78-86. The Duhawks led 44-41 at halftime and outscored the Norse 42-37 in the second frame. Loras jumped out to a double-digit lead early in the second half, putting together a 16-0 run, during the first six minutes of action. The Norse trailed by as many as 21 with just under six minutes remaining and battled back to the to the eight-point spread.
The Duhawks Ryan DiCanio, who was ranked 15th in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) for points per game, poured in a game high 33.
Luther was led by the trio of Garrian Wade, Gage Thompson and Aaron Blumberg. Wade scored a career high 15 points and matched his career high with nine rebounds. Thompson finished with 13 and Blumberg chipped in 10.
The loss gives Luther a league record of 0-7, 6-9 overall. Loras improved to 5-2 in the A-R-C, 13-3 overall.
Luther travels to Nebraska Wesleyan University this Saturday, Jan. 19. The Prairie Wolves are the defending NCAA III National champions and sit atop the league standings with a mark of 7-0, 15-0 overall. Tip-off in Lincoln, Neb. will take place at 4:00 p.m.
