The Luther men's basketball team lost a hard fought American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) battled tonight in the Regents Center by a final of 83-81. The Norse, who held a 43-41 advantage at halftime, led the entire second frame until the final 2.4 seconds, when Central's Jamel McKnight knocked down a jumper that proved to be the game winner.
Senior Jared Nicolaisen joined an elite group tonight. With 3:04 left in the game, Nicolaisen gave the Norse a four-point advantage (79-75) with a lay-up on the baseline for his 1,000th career point. Nicolaisen ended the game with a double-double finishing with 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. With this milestone, he becomes the 24th player in Luther history to score 1,000 points. The last to do this was Luther assistant coach John Androus (2010-14) who ended his career with 1,198.
Central was led by Jaden Moody who finished with a game high 21 points. Seth Wood also produced a double-double scoring 18 and collecting 10 boards. Adam Finn and Shimar Jones completed the list of double digit scorers with 17 and 10.
The loss drops Luther's A-R-C record to 0-6, 6-8 overall. Central improved to 3-3 in league play, 6-9 overall.
Luther returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 when it will host Loras College at 8:00 p.m.
