Regular season American Rivers Conference champions and No. 1 seed of the conference tournament Wartburg College, handed Luther a 78-67 loss tonight in a semifinal game held at Levick Arena.
With the scored tied 43-43 with 3:15 left in the third frame, the Knights put together an 11-0 run in a two minutes stretch, that proved to be the difference in the game. The Norse were never able to get closer then six points the rest of the way.
Luther's bench kept it in the game scoring 40 of its 67 points. Erin Saemrow led the Norse with a career high 18 points. Saemrow was 3-of-7 from the field and 10-of-15 from the free throw line.
Wartburg had four players in double digits. Emma Gerdes had 21, Tori Hazard was next with 14, while Ally Conrad and Payton Draper were credited with 12 and 11 respectively.
The loss ends Luther's season with an overall record of 12-13. Wartburg (23-3) advances to the championship game for the third year in a row and will host No. 2 Loras College on Saturday, Feb. 23. This will be the 11th time in the 20-year history of the conference tournament that the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will face each other in the title game. The winner will earn the league's automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA III National Tournament.
