Luther advanced to the semifinals of the American Rivers Conference Tournament defeating Coe College 65-62 in dramatic fashion tonight in the Regents Center.
The Norse led for a total of 3:12 the entire evening, that included the final 2:42 in the fourth and final frame. Coe took its largest lead of the night (43-29) with 8:07 to play in the third quarter. From that point on, Luther outscored Coe 36-19 and took its first lead of the second half (61-60), thanks to an Erin Saemrow three-point bucket. A couple of jumpers in the paint by Sarah Holtz in the final two minutes secured the come-from-behind victory.
Holtz led a trio of double digit scorers for the Norse finishing with 14 points. Laura Hamilton, who matched her career high for steals with eight, was credited with 13 points and Madilyn Heinke added 11. Saemrow finished with nine.
Coe's Madeline Wilkins led all scorers pouring in 22 points. Wilkins was 5-of-7 from behind the arch and missed just four shots the entire evening. Jackie Feldt had 14 points and Destiny Smith chipped in 12.
With the victory, Luther advances to the semifinals for a 12th time, in the 20-year history of the conference tournament. Luther also improved to 3-0 over Coe in first round games.
The Norse are now 12-12 overall. Coe's season comes to an end with an overall mark of 15-11.
Luther will travel to No. 1 seed Wartburg College on for a semifinal game on Thursday, Feb. 21. Tip-off in Waverly will take place at 7:00 p.m.
