Nationally ranked No. 16 Wartburg College exploded for 46 points in the second half en route to a 64-39 victory over Luther tonight in the Regents Center.
Holding a slim 18-17 advantage at halftime, the Knights outscored the Norse 27-14 in the third quarter and 19-8 in the fourth. The Knights shot 51.3 % and were also 19-of-21 from the charity stripe.
For the third consecutive game the Norse struggled offensively shooting 26.2% that included a 2-of-23 effort from behind the three-point line. Luther also got to the free throw line nine times making five.
Laura Hamilton and Sarah Holtz were the only players to tally double digits. Hamilton finished with 15 and Holtz chipped in 10. Next was Kaylee Parks, who made both of Luther's treys, and finished with six points.
Wartburg's Tori Hazard produced a double-double grabbing a game high 11 rebounds and producing 12 points. Emma Gerdes also had 12, while Adrienne Boettger finished with 11.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 8-5, 9-11 overall. Wartburg remains atop the league standings with a mark of 12-1, 19-3 overall.
Luther will complete the week with a road game at Central College on Saturday, Feb. 9. Start time is slated for 2:00 p.m. in Pella, Iowa.
