In a battle for first place in the America Rivers Conference (A-R-C), Loras College posted a 75-66 come-from-behind victory, over Luther tonight in the Regents Center.
Trailing the Norse 35-28 at halftime, the Duhawks came out with a trapping zone, and outscored the Norse 47-31 in the second half to secure the win. In the third quarter, Loras outscored Luther 28-14 and held a 56-49 advantage and never trailed the rest of the game.
Both teams had four players in double digits. Luther was led by Laura Hamilton who scored a game high 17. Hamilton also matched her career high with eight assists. Sarah Holtz was credited with 12 points, while both Maggie Anderson and Coranda Vickerman tallied 10.
Marissa Schroeder and Kari Fitzpatrick both recorded double-doubles for the Duhawks. Schroeder had 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Fitzpatrick had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ten of Schroeder's rebounds came on the offensive glass. Macenzie Kraemer led the Duhawks with 15 points and Hanna Stokes chipped in 10.
The loss drops Luther's A-R-C record to 5-2, 6-8 overall. Loras stays tied atop the league standings with Wartburg College, with a league mark of 6-1. The Duhawks have now won nine in a row and are 12-4 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 19 when it will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Lincoln, Neb.
