It was the American Rivers Conference opener for Luther and the second game of the league schedule for Simpson tonight in the Regents Center. The Storm jumped out to a 47-31 halftime lead en route to a 81-64 victory.
In the third quarter, Luther battled back from its 16-point deficit, to pull to with seven (59-52) with a little under two minutes left in the frame. The Storm answered with a 9-1 run and were never challenged the rest of the game.
Luther was led by Sarah Holtz and Laura Hamilton who both produced double digit point totals. Holtz matched a career high with a game high 18 points. Hamilton tallied 15 and also had a double-double thanks to 11 rebounds. Her 11 boards matched her career high.
Four Simpson players reached double figures led by Cassie Chubb and Jenna Taylor who both had a double-double. Chubb scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds, while Taylor was credited with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 1-4, 0-1 in the A-R-C. Simpson leveled its league record to 1-1, 4-1 overall.
Luther returns to action this Wednesday night when it will host the University of Dubuque. Start time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
