No. 22 Luther has qualified for the 2018 NCAA III National Tournament after capturing the American Rivers Conference Tournament championship tonight at Loras College. The Norse came-from-behind to defeated the Duhawks 2-1 in the Rock Bowl.
Javi Simon (5) gave the Duhawks a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute unassisted. With just under 17 minutes remaining in the match, the Norse scored twice to secure the victory. Ben Keller leveled the score with his tenth goal of the season at 73:12 assisted by Harry Merz (1). Marcos Vila scored the game winner at 86:22 assisted by Keller (5). The tournament title is the eighth in school history and the second in the past three years (2016, 2018).
Prior to the final two goals, the Norse had placed eight shots on goal. Carson Davenport and the defensive line turned away four shots inside the frame.
With the title, Luther earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA III National Tournament. This will be the ninth appearance (1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2018) in the national tournament and third in the past six years.
Where the Norse will play will be revealed on Monday, Nov. 5 during the NCAA III Selection Show that will take place at Noon at NCAA.com.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 16-3-1. Loras is now 13-6.
