No. 18 Luther College scored three unanswered goals in the final 30 minutes of play and came-from-behind to defeat UW-Whitewater 4-3 this evening.
Following the first 45 minutes of play, Luther trailed UW-Whitewater 2-1. The Warhawks struck first scoring on a corner kick at 9:26. Brunno Colon tied the scored on a penalty kick at 13:09. Whitewater took a 2-1 advantage into the halftime locker room after scoring on a header at 33:50.
Early in the second half, Whitewater held a two goal lead (3-1), scoring on a penalty kick at 53:25. Colin Hughes answered by scoring back-to-back goals at 60:36 and 65:46 that tied the score at 3-3. Hughes first goal was unassisted and his second was assisted by Andrew Avram.
At 79:41, Colon scored what proved to be the game winner and his third goal of the year, assisted by Avram.
Carson Davenport went the distance in front of the nets. Davenport faced five shots on goal and was credited with two saves.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 6-0. Whitewater fell to 1-3-1.
Luther returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when it will host Wheaton College (IL). Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
