Luther won its fourth match in a row and advanced to the semifinals of the American Rivers Conference Tournament, thanks to a 1-0 victory over Coe College tonight. During the 23 years of the league tournament, Luther has now advanced to the semifinals every year but two (2005, 2012).
Hanna Christopher scored the game winner at 36:46 assisted by Marta Springer (2). Christopher knocked the ball into the back of the net off a rebound from a point blank shot by Springer, that was turned away by Coe keeper Alex Montalbano. It was Christopher's fifth goal of the season and first game winner.
Kennedy Bergren turned away the three shots she faced on goal en route to her third consecutive shut out and seventh of the season. Bergren's goals-against-average has fallen to 0.94 after tonight's performance.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 7-7-3. Coe's season comes to an end with a mark of 10-8-1.
Luther will now face No. 2 seed Wartburg College in a semifinal match that will take place in Waverly on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Start time will be announced.
