Luther took one step closer to making the six-team American Rivers Conference Tournament tonight after defeating Coe College 2-1 under the lights in the valley.
The Norse scored both goals in the first 45 minutes of play and held off a Kohawk attack that out shot the Norse 9-6 in the second half.
Marta Springer gave the Norse a 1-0 lead off a cross by Sommer Stevens (2) at 34:34. McKenzie Lundquist found a deflected ball loose in front of the Kohawk net and scored what proved to be the game winner unassisted at 37:30. It was her first goal of the season.
Coe applied pressure on the Luther net most of the second half and pulled to within one, when Brylee Bastain scored off a corner kick sent to the far side of the net by Sydney Schroder at 70:07.
The win moved Luther into a two-way tie for third place with Central College in the league standings with a record of 4-2. Coe fell to sixth place with a mark of 2-4.
Luther will travel to Central College this Saturday, Oct. 20. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m. The Norse wrap up the regular season schedule at home on Tuesday, Oct. 23 versus the University of Dubuque. That game starts at 5:00 p.m.
