For the second year in a row Luther has been defeated by Wheaton College by the same final of 1-0.
Following a scoreless first half, Wheaton's Sara Bakke (2) found the back of the Luther net at 48:18, for what proved to be the game winner.
The goalkeepers for both teams played well. Luther goalkeeper Kennedy Bergren kept this game close as she made five saves in the second half en route to a match total of six. Thunder keeper Lauren Ketchum had five saves, four in the second frame.
Perhaps the play of the game was Ketchum stopping a point blank shot attempt by Hanna Christopher with just under two minutes remaining in the match, that secured the shutout.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 0-4-3. Wheaton improved to 5-1.
Luther returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
