Luther posted its first American Rivers Conference win tonight here in the Regents Center. The Norse defeated the Storm of Simpson College by a final of 3-1. Set scores were 23-25, 27-25, 25-13 and 25-20.
After dropping the first set, Luther held a 24-22 advantage in set two and almost let the set victory get away. The Storm tied the match at 24-24 and then took a 25-24 advantage. The Norse responded with three straight points to secure the win.
The Norse rolled to a 25-13 win in set three and were trailing the Storm 13-9 early in the fourth set. Luther put together a 16-7 run that secured the match victory.
Karissa Kime led all attackers recording a match high 18 kills. Kime had just two attack errors and posted an attack percentage of .471. Anna Larson tallied a double-double thanks to 12 kills and 12 digs.
Emily Rinken led the team with 21 digs. Sam Sixta dished out 22 assists and Grace Meyers had 19 assists.
Luther dominated at the net recording 10 total blocks. Emma Veum, Katie Shabatura and Kime all had five block assists and Paige Yontz was credited with four.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 1-1, 8-7 overall. Simpson is also 1-1 in the A-R-C, 5-10 overall.
Luther returns to action this Saturday when it will host the College of St. Benedict. This match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
