It was a dominating performance by the Knights of Wartburg College as they defeated Luther this afternoon in Walston-Hoover Stadium 43-7. The Knights tallied 508 yards of total offense, while holding Luther to 170.
2017 league MVP Matt Sacia was 22-of-27 for 359 yards and four touchdowns. He threw touchdown passes of 11, 8, 19 and 59 yards.
Running back Mason Carter, who finished with 96 yards on 19 carries, tallied touchdown runs of 11 and 48 yards.
Parker Kizer scored Luther's touchdown with 3:49 remaining in the game on a three-year run. It was his second touchdown of the season.
Andrew Whalen led the Norse rushing attack that had 149 yards for the afternoon. Whalen tallied 39 yards on six carries. Yassine Ouazzani was next with 34 yards and Travis Vargas finished with 31.
The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 1-6, 1-8 overall. Wartburg (6-1, 7-2) remains tied atop the league standings with the University of Dubuque (6-1, 7-2). These two teams face each other in the final regular season game of the year in Dubuque next week. The winner will claim the league title and a trip to the NCAA III National Tournament.
Luther wraps up its season at home next Saturday when it will host Coe College (4-3, 5-4). Start time for this game is Noon.
