Luther secured a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament after defeating Coe College 83-76 this afternoon at Kohawk Arena. The Norse never trailed and led by as many as 21 points late in the third quarter. The Kohawks made things a bit interesting down the stretch outscoring the Norse 11-1 in the final two minutes.
Luther shot the ball well connecting on 52 percent (26-40) from the field and 83 percent (25-30) from the free throw line. Defensively, Luther held Coe to 35 percent (23-64) and also won the battle of the boards 36-30.
The Kohawks were led by the trio of Aleena Hobbs (18), Jenna Lehman (16) and Jordan Holmes (10).
The victory snapped Coe's eight-game win streak and gives Luther sole possession of second place in the league standings at 9-3, 15-8 overall. Coe fell to 9-4 in the IIAC, 12-10 overall.
Luther returns to action at home on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when it will host unbeaten and nationally ranked No. 3 Wartburg College. Tip-off will take place at 6:00 p.m.
