Luther rolled to a 76-55 victory over Simpson College tonight in the Regents Center. A Sarah Holtz jumper at 5:31 of the first quarter tied the game for the third and final time 6-6. Madison Spence gave the Norse the lead for good on at lay-up at the 5:03 mark. The Norse outscored the Storm 18-8 in the first frame and never were challenged the rest of the way.
Holtz and Claire Marburger led the offensive attack producing 14 points each. Madison Spence also tallied double digits with 12. Marburger recorded a double-double grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. Spence and Laura Hamilton led the team with six assists each. Spence's assist total was a career high.
Victoria Hazard and Ellen Gallagher led the Storm scoring 16 and 11 respectively off the bench.
The win keeps Luther tied for second place in the Iowa Conference standings with Coe. Luther is 7-3 in league play, 14-8 overall. Simpson fell to 6-6 in the IIAC, 12-9 overall.
Luther and Coe will face each other this Saturday, Feb. 3 in Cedar Rapids. The Kohawks will enter this game with an eight-game win streak. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
