Waldorf University defeated Luther tonight in the Regents Center 76-75 in overtime. The overtime game was the second in a row for the Norse.
In a game that had nine ties, Luther battled back from a five-point deficit with a little over two minutes remaining in regulation. A three-point bucket by Rahul Bagga gave the Norse a one-point advantage (66-65) with 46 ticks remaining on the clock. The Warriors tied the game with a free throw with 22 seconds remaining. Luther had one final chance to secure a victory in regulation but missed two free throws with five seconds left. The Warriors outscored the Norse 10-9 in overtime to secure the non-conference victory.
Rahul Bagga tied a single game record with seven three-pointers en route to a career high 29 points. Bagga was 7-of-8 from behind the arch. He becomes the fifth Luther player to make seven treys in a game. Tim Merritt was the last to accomplish this feat Dec. 7, 2011 vs. Simpson College.
Jared Nicolaisen also tallied double digits scoring 19 points. Four of Nicolaisen's point total came at the charity stripe in overtime.
Kaden Verdin led a group of four Warriors that produced double digits. Verdin recorded a double-double collecting a game high 15 rebounds and scoring 18 points.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 3-7. Waldorf improved to 7-7.
Luther returns to action following a Christmas break. The Norse will host Martin Luther College on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 2:00 p.m.
